AMES, Iowa—Renee Mumm of Black Hawk County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 25-29. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and the Engle Family Foundation. Mumm, 18, is the daughter of Ronald and Deb Mumm of Hudson.

Mumm will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Mumm, a senior at Hudson High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.

During her nine years in 4-H, Mumm has completed several major projects including leadership, citizenship, clothing, beef and swine. She was a finalist in senior showmanship at the state fair. Mumm also has received honors at the county level including the junior and senior Guldage Merit Award, intermediate camp scholarship, senior leadership award, the Page Mumm Beef Award and was the 2006 Black Hawk County Pork Queen. She also has served as president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club, along with being a camp counselor and junior leader. Mumm has served on her county, area and state 4-H councils and has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. She also is an active member of FFA and has won various contests at the district and state levels.

“One of the great opportunities 4-H offers is developing leadership as well as citizenship skills,” said Mumm. “It has taught me the rewards of helping others, and it also has taught me how to set goals for myself and achieve them through hard work and prioritizing.”
