AMES, Iowa—Isaac Hovey of Worth County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 24-28. He is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and the Iowa 4-H Foundation. Hovey, 17, is the son of Larry and Donna Hovey of Northwood.
Hovey will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Hovey, a junior at Northwood-Kensett Community High School, was chosen for his leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During his seven years in 4-H, Hovey has completed major projects including swine, sheep, woodworking, visual arts and photography. He has received 4-H honors for a citizenship project and a club project at state fair. Along with these, Hovey has received honors at the county level including an intermediate level citizenship award, top junior and senior record book award and champion and reserve champion derby hog. He also has served as president and treasurer of his 4-H club. He has served on his county and area 4-H councils and participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus trip.
“4-H has given me an incredible sense of accomplishment,” said Hovey. “It has taught me to work hard towards my goals and to be proud when I reach them. Also, it has helped improve my self-confidence and has taught me skills to help me survive in the real world.”
