AMES, Iowa – Courtney Athey of Worth County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 25-29. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board Endowment. Athey, 17, is the daughter of Deb Athey of Northwood and Gary Athey of Hayfield, Minn.
Athey will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Athey, a junior at Northwood-Kensett High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her eight years in 4-H, Athey has completed several major projects including communication, citizenship and personal development. She was selected as a citizenship state 4-H project award winner. Athey has received the TAP award and top intermediate girl in Worth County. She also has been the reporter for her 4-H club for three years. She serves on her county, area and state 4-H councils and participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.
“4-H has taught me remarkable leadership and communication skills,” said Athey. “It will help me in everything I do.”
