Wapello County 4-H'er to attend National 4-H Congress in Atlanta

AMES, Iowa – Kala Barre of Wapello County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 25-29. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and the Iowa 4-H Foundation Board Endowment. Barre, 17, is the daughter of Richard and Joyce Barre of Ottumwa.

 

Barre will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Barre, a senior at Eddyville Blakesburg High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program. 

 

During her nine years in 4-H, Barre has completed several major projects including communication, leadership, citizenship, clothing and food and nutrition. She has received numerous blue ribbons and certificates of excellency at the state fair. Barre also has received honors at the county level including awards in clothing, communication, food and nutrition and fashion review. She has been the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer for her 4-H club. She also has served on her county and state 4-H councils and county youth committee. Barre has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, the Citizenship-Washington Focus trip and the international 4-H exchange program as a host.

 

“4-H has given me the confidence to try new things and to get up in front of people and speak,” said Barre. “4-H is a wonderful experience.”
