AMES, Iowa – Lisa Wehr of Keokuk County has been selected to represent Iowa at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Ga. Nov. 24-28. She is sponsored by the Iowa Farm Bureau Life Charitable Trust and the Iowa Cattleman’s Foundation. Wehr, 17, is the daughter of Larry and Rhonda Wehr of Sigourney.
Wehr will join 22 other youth from Iowa at the leadership conference, entitled "Lead, Learn, Grow." Iowa's Congress delegates are selected through interviews and evaluation of support materials. Wehr, a senior at Sigourney High School, was chosen for her leadership, citizenship and overall achievement in the 4-H program.
During her eight years in 4-H, Wehr has completed several major projects including dog, sheep, dairy, photography and leadership. She has received county level honors such as an agricultural award and top photography exhibit. She has been vice president, historian and secretary of her 4-H club. She has served on her county 4-H council and participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and Citizenship-Washington Focus.
“4-H has helped me explore and gain experience in new areas,” said Wehr. “I have learned valuable communication, leadership and other interpersonal skills. I have also been given many chances to see new places that I never could have experienced without 4-H.”
