New Pork Industry Handbook Now Available

11/15/2006

AMES, Iowa -- For many years, pork producers depended upon the Pork Industry Handbook (PIH) for current relevant information on all aspects of raising hogs. Now that resource has been updated, repackaged and made available in a variety of formats.

Iowa Pork Industry Center director John Mabry said the New 2007 Pork Industry Handbook is available in hard copy and on DVD from Purdue University. The publication's more than 180 individual fact sheets also are in electronic version on the Pork Information Gateway Web site.

"There is a direct link to the Pork Information Gateway from the IPIC home page," Mabry said. "Or you can go to this URL http://isu.porkgateway.com/web/guest/, and then link on the left side link to Pig References. This site offers a wealth of information for producers, students, educators and other pork industry professionals."

This portion of the Pork Gateway Web site contains nearly 200 fact sheets in more than a dozen categories. The scope of the original PIH has been expanded and also includes posted questions and answers as they pertain to specific fact sheet content areas.

For those who prefer to have reference material in print or disk format, Purdue University offers the 2007 version in hard copy, DVD, and a combination package of both. Cost for the book is $90 plus shipping, the DVD is $45 plus shipping and the combination package is $115 plus shipping. You can learn more about these versions and download an order form by visiting the Purdue University Extension Web site at http://www.ces.purdue.edu/porkindustryhandbook2/
