AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Story County 4-H member. Stephanie Nelson, Ames, received the Quercus 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Quercus Landscapes, Inc.
Nelson, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Gregory and Diane Nelson. She has served as president, vice president, secretary and reporter of her 4-H club. Nelson has participated most actively in the flower garden, dairy cattle, photography and food and nutrition project areas. At Iowa State, she is a member of Emerging Green Builders. Nelson also is a member and president of an environmental club, 100th Green Butterfly.
“Through hands-on experiences in my family’s garden and in the 4-H dairy program, I developed significant connections to the land and a concern for how to improve land use,” Nelson said. “I am learning how people relate to the land and how I can design places that foster positive experiences such as those I had growing up.”
Nelson, a sophomore at Iowa State University, majors in Landscape Architecture.
