AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Humboldt County 4-H member. Amber Bacon, Humboldt, received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.
Bacon, an 11-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Les and Diane Bacon. She has served as president, secretary and treasurer of her 4-H club. Bacon has participated most actively in the beef, clothing, home improvement, visual arts and animal science project areas. Bacon received the Danforth “I Dare You” Award, Chicago Award trip, and County Agricultural Award.
“Having the opportunity to participate in working exhibits and giving educational presentations through the 4-H program has improved my communication skills and self-esteem greatly. I hope to one day have a job specializing in feed supplements and grain rations, and to work directly with livestock growers,” Bacon said. “The 4-H program has opened a broad view of career options for me.”
Bacon, a recent graduate of Humboldt High School, plans to attend Iowa Central Community College to study animal science and animal nutrition.
