AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Benton County 4-H member. Rachel Maile, Atkins, has received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Maile, a four-year member, is the daughter of Rex and Cathy Maile. She is active in photography, woodworking, home improvement and clothing project areas. Maile has served as vice-president and reporter for her 4-H club and has received the county clothing and home improvement awards. "Being involved and active in 4-H and FFA has helped me to see the need for veterinarian care of animals in all areas of their lives, from pet health to grooming and behaviors, Maile said. "I want to be able to help in all of these areas."

Maile is currently a senior at Benton Community High School and plans to attend Kirkwood Community College to become a veterinarian technician.
