Delaware County 4-H Member Receives Mahr Family 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A one-year full tuition scholarship has been awarded to a Delaware 4-H member. Jessica Tekippe, Manchester, has received the Mahr Family 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the family of Marvin, Sr. and Frederica Mahr.

Tekippe, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Dan and Mary Tekippe. She was active in dairy, crop production, communication and clothing project areas. Tekippe has won runner-up at the National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl, Iowa 4-H Quiz Bowl Champion, and Iowa 4-H Individual Dairy Judging Champion. She received the "I Dare You" Award along with county agriculture and achievement awards. Tekippe served on county youth committee and 4-H council, as a delegate at the National 4-H Congress and as president, secretary and reporter of her 4-H club. Tekippe has been her county's 4-H queen and was an area 4-H camp counselor.

"My 4-H experience taught me to be a leader and apply myself to the best of my ability," Tekippe said. "Youth are the future of agriculture and I hope to remain involved with youth programs to help ensure they see the possibilities agriculture has to offer."

Tekippe is currently attending Iowa State University, majoring in dairy science. She is president of her resident hall floor, is involved in collegiate FFA and 4-H, Block and Bridle and the Dairy Science Club. Tekippe also is the top freshman leadership student in the Student Alumni Leadership Council and is on the College of Agriculture Dean's List.
