AMES, Iowa-- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Boone County 4-H member. Cory Haglund, Boone, was awarded the Schmalenberger 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Carl Schmalenberger Memorial Funds.
Haglund, a nine-year member, is the son of Kriss and Crystal Haglund. He is active in beef, horse, citizenship and leadership program areas. Haglund has served on county 4-H council and as president, vice-president and treasurer of his 4-H club. He attended the Animal Science ROUNDUP and CSI:Crops at Iowa 4-H conferences and also has been awarded the Spirit and Leader of Tomorrow awards. Haglund has helped with numerous community projects, including computer classes for senior citizens, volunteering at the Iowa Games, and landscaping a local church and park. In school, he is active in student council, National Honor Society, and football.
"I have found 4-H to be a very worthwhile and valuable organization," Haglund said. "I have become a much better leader through my participation and have expanded my skills of time management, organization and determination."
Haglund is currently a senior at Ogden High School and plans to attend Iowa State to major in animal science.
