Calhoun County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa-- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Calhoun County 4-H member. Krista Betten, Jolley, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Advancement of Agriculture.
Betten, an eight-year member, is the daughter of Brian and Dianne Betten. She is active in clothing selection, woodworking, food and nutrition, and home improvement project areas. Betten has served on the county and area 4-H councils and as president, vice-president and secretary of her 4-H club. She has received a Seal of Excellence at the Iowa State Fair and the Outstanding Home Economics Award. Betten also has received the "I Dare You" award and has attended the Iowa 4-H Conference twice. In school, she is active in cross-country, FFA and student council.
"4-H has taught me life lessons and more about myself than any other organization," Betten said. "I've learned about animals and developed agriculture skills just by participating in the fairs. I want people to realize how important agriculture is."
Betten is currently a senior at Rockwell City-Lytton High School and plans to attend Iowa State University to major in agricultural marketing.
