AMES, Iowa-- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to an Osceola County 4-H member. Tim Berkland, Sibley, has received the Prestage-Stoecker Farms 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Stoecker Farms, Inc.
Berkland, a 10-year member, is the son of Dan and Loretta Berkland. He has been active in leadership, horse, woodworking and beef project areas. Berkland has served on county 4-H council and as president, vice-president and treasurer of his 4-H club. He also has received the "I Dare You," AK-SAR-BEN Leadership, and the Blahauvietz Outstanding 4-H Member of the Year awards. Berkland is a champion beef and horse showman and has won several project awards at the Iowa State Fair in those areas. In high school, he was involved in National Honor Society, FFA and various sports
"In my first semester at Iowa State, I have realized just how important my 4-H experience was," Berkland said. "I have enjoyed raising my own beef, swine and soybeans through 4-H ad I want to learn all that I can in college."
Berkland is majoring in Animal Science at Iowa State University. In Berkland's first year at Iowa State, he has been active in Block and Bridle Association, ACES College of Agriculture Learning Community and is on the National Dean's List.
