Benton County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa-- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Benton County 4-H member. Amanda Svoboda, Vinton, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement.
Svoboda, an eight-year member, is the daughter of Jeff and Monica Svoboda. She has served on the county 4-H council and as vice-president and president of her 4-H club. She has shown swine and horticulture projects at the Iowa State Fair and has received the AK-SAR-BEN Award. Svoboda also has made several presentations to peers on livestock based on workshops she attended. In school, Svoboda is active in National Honor Society, the Mentor Club program and FFA.
"In 4-H I have learned to do my best at everything I attempt and that winning is not the most important thing," Svoboda said. "I have developed a good work ethic and learned that hard work pays off."
Svoboda is currently a senior at Washington High School and plans to major in animal science at Iowa State University.
