Poverty Simulation Featured in NPR Series

5/1/2006

AMES, Iowa -- In its series "Fighting Poverty in America," National Public Radio takes a look at efforts around the country that aim to tackle poverty. One of the stories features how Savannah, Georgia, is using the Poverty Simulation as part of its poverty reduction initiative.

“This is another example of how the Poverty Simulation is building awareness and changing people’s attitudes about poverty,” said Diana Broshar, Iowa State University Extension program specialist.

ISU Extension has been conducting poverty simulations for more than 10 years to help educators, business professionals, volunteers and other community members begin to understand the effects of living in poverty.
