AMES, Iowa-- The 35th Annual Current Issues in Nutrition Conference will examine the impact of the Dietary Guidelines that were established in 2005 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The April 20, 2006 satellite broadcast is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT and is sponsored by Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.
"This is an opportunity for people to learn how consumers, the food industry and public policy makers have responded to the guidelines, said Sally Barclay, ISU food science and human nutrition clinician. Participants also will have an opportunity to question the speakers.
Presenters include Susan Crockett from General Mills; Cathy Kapica from McDonald's Corporation, Lisa Mancino, from USDA Economic Research Service, Stella Nash, from USDAs regional Food and Nutrition Center and Margo Wootan from the Center for Science in Public Interest.
Continuing education units (CEUs) are available for registered dietitians, certified family and consumer sciences educators, School Nutrition Association (SNA) members and certified dietary managers.
The conference has been made available by ISU to North America and the Pacific Islands via satellite since 1988. This year, some groups also will be able to participate via webcast.
