6/9/2006

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Benton County 4-H member. Tyler Schwab, Belle Plaine, received a Theisen Home-Farm-Auto 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Theisen Supply, Inc.

Schwab, a nine-year 4-H member, is the son of Terry and Denise Schwab. He has served as president, secretary and treasurer of his 4-H club. Schwab has participated most actively in the horse project area. He received Agriculture, Leadership and Horse Project awards. Schwab participated in County 4-H Council and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

"There are so many doors that 4-H can open to lead people to careers that they love," Schwab said. "My skills with horses have mainly developed over the last six years through 4-H and from working with my horses and the others in the horse business."

Schwab, a recent graduate of Belle Plaine Community High School, plans to attend Kirkwood Community College to study equine science.
