6/9/2006

AMES, Iowa – A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Union County 4-H member. Amanda Beede, Creston, received an Alumni 4-H Scholarship sponsored by 4-H Alumni contributions to The Iowa 4-H Foundation Scholarship Fund.

Beede, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Jon and Kenneth Beede. She has served as president, vice president and secretary of her 4-H club. Beede has participated most actively in the food and nutrition, leadership, horticulture, child development and clothing project areas. She received a Mary Winkler leadership award and participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and a 4-H Exchange program in Kansas.

"The diverse project areas of 4-H have helped me know what I enjoy and am good at doing. I have also discovered abilities in myself through 4-H that I did not know I had, such as leading and working with others," Beede said. "Those discoveries helped me to choose my future in the business field."

Beede, a recent graduate of Creston High School, plans to attend AIB College of Business to study travel and tourism and business administration.
