6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Jones County student. Justine Hosch, Cascade, has received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"I learned ways to enhance and strengthen my leadership skills," Hosch, the daughter of Peter Hosch and June Knepper, said. "I also met new people and had fun."

Hosch is a member of 4-H and also participated in band, basketball, student council and National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the DeKalb Agriculture and the Anamosa Rotary Leadership awards.

Hosch served as the secretary of her FFA chapter, president of her 4-H club and on the Jones County 4-H Teen Council.

A senior at Cascade High School, Hosch plans to attend Iowa State University to study animal science.
