Louisa County Student Receives Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship

6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Louisa County student. Julia Townsley, Letts, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"The training helped me see different student's perspectives on leadership, which in turn broadened my ways to approach it [leadership]," said Townsley, daughter of Randy and Annette Townsley.

Townsley is a member of 4-H and has participated in band, FFA, student council and National Honor Society. Townsley has served as class vice-president, FFA president and as her school's National Honor Society vice-president.

As a senior at Louisa-Muscatine High School, Townsley plans to attend Iowa State University to begin her studies in public service and administration in agriculture.
