Muscatine County Student Receives Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship

6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Muscatine County student. Nate Lincoln, Stockton, has received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"I have learned to view myself differently," Lincoln, son of Doug and Shelley Lincoln, said. "I look at my strengths to capitalize on what I do well. I try to improve my weaknesses on my own time so as not to slow the progress of the group."

Lincoln is a member of 4-H and has participated in football, track, drama and National Honor Society. He has been named Special Teams Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Best Team Player in various sports.

Lincoln also has served as chairman of multiple community service activities.

As a senior at Durant High School, Lincoln plans to attend Iowa State University to begin his studies in computer engineering.
