6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Keokuk County student. Hannah Baker, Richland, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"The program has helped me to become a more organized, confident leader," Baker, the daughter of Tom and Donna Baker, said. "I have learned how to work with many different kinds of people."

Baker is a member of 4-H and is active in track, volleyball, swing choir and speech. She is a Golden Triangle Academic and Athletic Award recipient and is the student body president.

Baker is also involved in the Rock 'n Prevention and D.A.R.E. programs, along with Family Career and Community Leaders of America.

A senior at Keota High School, Baker plans to attend Wartburg College to study biology.
