Washington County Student Receives Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship

6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Washington County student. Staci Sieren, Keota, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"Through the program I have learned many useful life skills such as interviewing strategies and leadership techniques," Sieren, daughter of Scott and Renee Sieren, said. "All of these experiences continue to help me develop into a productive member of my community."

Sieren is a 4-H member and has participated in volleyball, swing choir, student council and drama. She has received all-conference recognition in various sports, was chosen to go to the Iowa Junior Science Olympics, and has performed at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida with her swing choir team.

Sieren has served as president of her 4-H club, vice-president of her class and a class representative for swing choir.

As a senior at Keota High School, Sieren plans to attend Wartburg College to begin her studies in biology and pre-dentistry.
