6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Washington County student. Jacayla Vittetoe, Washington, received the Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"It definitely made me a more confident person," Vittetoe, daughter of Tom and Tammy Vittetoe, said. "I have gained a lot of valuable information from this experience that will certainly help me in the future."

Vittetoe is a 4-H member and has participated in volleyball, track and National Honor Society. She is the recipient of an academic letter and varsity letters in volleyball, basketball, track and dance.

Vittetoe has received state recognition for the Prudential Spirit of Community Service, has served as president and vice-president of her 4-H club and as president of her local S.A.D.D. chapter.

As a senior at Washington High School, Vittetoe plans to attend the University of Northern Iowa to study communicative disorders.
