AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Johnson County student. Brett Seelman, North Liberty, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"The training program has helped me develop leadership skills I have and will continue to use the rest of my life," said Seelman, son of Jim and Bev Seelman. "I have learned how to approach and be approached by anyone and anything that comes my way."
Seelman is a 4-H member and has participated in baseball, choir, band, and student council. He is a member of National Honor Society, is salutatorian of his class, and is the recipient of the Gold president's Student Service Challenge Award.
Seelman has served as class vice-president, student council president, National Honor Society vice-president, president of the Johnson County Youth Council and as a member of the State 4-H Council.
