AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Johnson County student. Rachel Wall, Iowa City, has received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"The training program has had a big influence on my leadership style and outlook on life," Wall, daughter of Tom and Anita Wall, said. "I have learned how to manage difficult situations, communicate effectively and inspire others."
Wall is a member of 4-H and has participated in volleyball, cheerleading, National Honor Society and student government. She is the recipient of the Principal's Leadership Award and state 4-H project awards in citizenship, leadership and food and nutrition.
Wall has served as president of the student body and her 4-H club, as well as secretary of National Honor Society.
As a senior at West Branch High School, Wall plans to attend Iowa State University to study nutrition.
