6/13/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to an Iowa County student. Paige Jones, Williamsburg, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.

The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.

"The training program has helped me build my leadership skills," Jones, daughter of Terry and Susan Jones, said. "My skills have become stronger and I feel that I can lead any group or anyone that needs my help."

Jones is a 4-H member and has participated in track, drama and National Honor Society. She is the recipient of several 4-H awards and was selected to be a delegate to National 4-H Congress.

Jones has served on State 4-H Council, as 4-H club president, vice-president of her local youth council and volleyball manager.

As a senior at Williamsburg High School, Jones plans to attend Simpson College to study elementary education.
