AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to an Iowa County student. Emily Huedepohl, Conroy, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"The program has given me more confidence in my role as a leader," Huedepohl, daughter of Neal and Teresa Huedepohl, said. "I know I can be a successful leader wherever I chose to be."
Huedepohl is a member of 4-H and has participated in various sports, show choir, color guard, and FFA. She is a member of National Honor Society, has received good citizen recognition from Daughters of the American Revolution and is her class salutatorian.
Huedepohl has served as basketball and color guard captains, vice-president of her FFA chapter, and in many offices in her 4-H club.
As a senior at Williamsburg Community School, Huedepohl plans to attend Drake University to begin her studies in pharmacy.
