AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to an Iowa County student. Anna Hoppe, Amana, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"The biggest thing the training has given me is confidence," Hoppe, the daughter of Robert and Emilie Hoppe, said. "The training has reaffirmed the fact that I have the tools to make a difference in the world."
Hoppe is a member of 4-H and has participated in academic decathlon, student council and National Honor Society. She is the recipient of the University of Iowa Excellence Scholarship, is a Des Moines Register Academic All-State student and her class valedictorian.
Hoppe has served as secretary of her 4-H club, as a member of the Iowa County 4-H Council, captain of her school's Academic Decathlon and as publicity chair of the student council.
As a senior at Clear Creek Amana High School, Hoppe plans to attend the University of Iowa to study biomedical engineering.
