AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to an Iowa County student. Bryce Heitman, Williamsburg, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"The training has helped me to understand my strengths and weaknesses," Heitman, the son of Loring and Theresa Heitman, said. "It also has taught me how to effectively play on the strengths of difficult people."
Heitman is a member of 4-H and has participated in band, track, National Honor Society and student council. He is a three-time state qualifier in cross-country and has earned recognition for his 4-H project in citizenship, leadership and achievement.
Heitman also has served as student body president, president of his 4-H club and treasurer of his FFA chapter.
As a senior at Williamsburg High School, Heitman plans to attend Iowa State University to study aerospace engineering.
