Adair County 4-H Member Receives Oster Journalism 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,500 scholarship has been awarded to an Adair County 4-H member. Michael Cooley, Orient, has received the Oster Journalism 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Merrill J. Oster of Cedar Falls.

 

Cooley, an eight-year member, is the son of Mike and Dawn Cooley. He was active in communications, leadership, citizenship and home improvement project areas. Cooley has received state communication, citizenship and leadership awards, the "I Dare You" Award and is on the design team for National Operation: Military Kids. He has served on county, area and state 4-H councils and as president, secretary and historian for his 4-H club. Cooley has attended the National 4-H Youth Conference, National 4-H Youth Congress and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

 

"4-H has always been a teacher," Cooley said. "What I have to give to 4-H, I know I have already received back. The experiences that 4-H has provided me are endless."

 

Cooley is currently a sophomore at Iowa State University and is studying agricultural communications. He is the vice-president of the ISU Collegiate FFA, the president of the ISU Ag Education Club and is an ag council representative for the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT).
