Palo Alto County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

6/9/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Palo Alto County 4-H member. Jake Rouse, Curlew, has received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement.

Rouse, a nine-year member, is the son of Ron and Suzanne Rouse. He is active in beef, photography, food and nutrition and leadership project areas. Rouse also has won the R. W. Ashby Award, AK-SAR-BEN Award and awards for citizenship and leadership. He has served on county, area and state 4-H councils and as president and vice-president of his 4-H club. Rouse has worked as 4-H state fair livestock staff and shown market and breeding beef at the Iowa State Fair. In school, he is the president of his FFA chapter and is active in student government, band and National Honor Society.

"4-H has greatly impacted my choice of career," Rouse said. "It has taught me what I really love to do in life. I love taking care of animals and watching how much they change from day one of the project until the last day. Experiences like these have led me to pursue an animal science degree."

Rouse is currently a senior at Emmetsburg High School and plans to attend Iowa State University to major in animal science.
