6/2/2006

AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Buchanan County 4-H member. Jessica Hainline, Winthrop, has received a Pioneer Community College 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.

Hainline, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Greg and Cindy Hainline. She is active in beef, food and nutrition, and horse project areas. Hainline also has won the "I Dare You" Award, the C.J. Arthaud Award and senior project awards in beef, communications and citizenship. She has served on county 4-H council and as president, vice-president and secretary of her 4-H club. Hainline has attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference and done several volunteer projects, including helping serve food at the Ronald McDonald House, making care packages for troops in Iraq and helping with bingo at the senior center. In school, she participates in volleyball and band.

"Being in 4-H has enabled me to experience many different things and beef is one that I am most interested in," said Hainline. "My major of choice is a result of my 4-H experience."

Hainline is currently a senior at East Buchanan High School and plans to attend Kirkwood Community College to study beef science and agriculture production management.
