7/12/2006
AMES, Iowa – Families of 4-H alumni in the military can submit photos of loved ones to their local county office of Iowa State University (ISU) Extension for a special display at the Iowa State Fair, Aug. 10-20.
The 4-H alumni military display will be one part of the interactive program to recognize and support the military at the fair. Fairgoers also will be able to send e-postcards to deployed military or military families from kiosks and learn from the 4-H Technology Team how to produce podcasts and put them on the Internet. The kiosks will be provided through 4-H’s Operation Military Kids, an outreach program for the children of National Guard and Reserve soldiers.
Families of 4-H alumni in the military can submit photos to their county extension office until Aug. 1. Include name, military branch, rank, where they are stationed, 4-H club they were a member of and county. If submitting a non-digital photo, please include contact information on it.
“We want to show the public our 4-H’ers take to heart that they serve the country, as well as their communities,” Chris Gleason, 4-H’s Operation Military Kids project director, said.
For more information about Operation Military Kids and 4-H contact the local county office of ISU Extension.
