AMES, Iowa -- The HeartReach Mobile Lab, a service of Iowa Health–Des Moines, is partnering with Iowa State University Extension to provide screenings for improved heart health at the 2006 Farm Progress Show.
“We are collaborating with HeartReach at the Farm Progress Show to encourage awareness about heart health and to provide cardiovascular screenings for attendees,” said Ruth Litchfield, ISU Extension nutrition specialist.
The HeartReach Mobile Lab Winnebago® travels throughout Iowa and was established to respond to community need for education and health screenings specific to cardiovascular disease. Their mission is to detect and prevent heart disease before problems arise by helping individuals take charge of their heart and vascular health.
“We’ve reached out to establish partnerships with programs like Lighten Up Iowa and the American Heart Association, as well as serving many regional communities and businesses,” said Sheryl Herrold, HeartReach staff member.
Aug. 29-31 from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Farm Progress Show vendors and attendees can receive a Complete Package screening for $75 (valued at $125). Appointments must be made through the call center at (866) 935-5432 for participants to receive preparation instructions. Major components of the Complete Package include a coronary lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, ultrasound screening of carotid arteries and abdominal aorta, a 12-lead EKG and a personal cardiovascular risk assessment by a specialized cardiac nurse, who will review your screening results on-site.
Aug. 29-31 from noon to 4 p.m., attendees also can receive individual screenings (cholesterol, HDL, blood sugar, EKG) on a walk-in basis, with tests ranging from $20 to $35 each.
Participants also will receive an informational packet with suggestions for a healthy lifestyle. EKG and ultrasound results will be mailed to the participant approximately 10-14 days after the screening, and all participants will receive a phone call two weeks after the screening to confirm results and to answer any questions.
