Grazing Standing Corn Field Day
HOLLAND, Iowa -- Producers who are looking for an alternative feed system for their cow-calf operations should attend the Grazing Standing Corn Field Day on Tuesday, Jan. 17, from 1–3 p.m. The field day will be held at Fred Abels’ farm (20902 J Avenue), two miles west of Holland on D35 and about one half mile south on J Avenue on the east side of the road.
Fifty fall calving cows have been strip grazing standing corn since early December. Each day, the cows are given access to slightly less than one tenth of an acre of standing corn. Grazing has provided most of the feed for the cows this winter.
Costs of providing winterfeed for beef cows through this alternative system, plus management factors and practical tips to consider will be discussed
The meeting will be held in the farm shop, but participants will get to go to the field, if weather permits.
