Washington County 4-H Member Receives Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Washington County 4-H Member. Amanda Shelman, Washington, received an Iowa State Fair 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the Iowa Foundation for Agricultural Advancement.
Shelman, a nine-year member, is the daughter of Nick and Rhonda Shelman. She is active in market beef, breeding beef, communications and photography project areas. Shelman has served as reporter, secretary and treasurer of her local 4-H club. She has been crowned Washington County Beef Queen and is a member of the Iowa Junior Beef Breeds Association. In high school, Shelman was active in cheerleading, track and FFA.
"4-H has provided me with many great experiences," said Shelman. "Participating in 4-H for nine years has enhanced my love of agriculture."
Shelman recently graduated from Washington High School and plans to attend Iowa State University to major in agriculture business.
