Career Days Set for Girls in Science and Engineering

AMES, Iowa -- Female students in grades 6 through 12 can check out career paths in science, technology, engineering and math at October conferences scheduled at Iowa State University (ISU).

Sponsored by the Program for Women in Science and Engineering, the Taking the Road Less Traveled fall 2006 career conferences take place at the Memorial Union on the ISU campus in Ames, Iowa.

Approximately 2,500 individuals participate in these one-day conferences each year, according to Carol Heaverlo, outreach coordinator for the women’s science program.

In the morning participants hear from professional women; in the afternoon they participate in hands-on activities or tours. Cost is $15 per participant (students, educators, parents and chaperones) and includes lunch.

Grades 9 to 12 should postmark registrations by Sept. 28 for the Oct. 12 conference. Grades 6 to 9 should postmark registrations Oct. 5 for the Oct. 19 conference or Oct. 12 for the Oct. 26 conference.
