AMES, Iowa – An upcoming conference will highlight the latest research on estrus synchronization, female and male fertility and dealing with real-life beef breeding issues.
The conference, Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle, will be held Aug. 30 and 31 at the Stoney Creek Inn in St. Joseph, Mo. It is coordinated by the North Central Region Bovine Reproduction Task Force, of which Iowa State University (ISU) is a part.
“This is a conference that beef producers and veterinarians alike should consider attending,” says Daryl Strohbehn, professor of animal science at ISU. “This is an excellent opportunity to learn from the latest reproductive efficiency research work done by the Beef Reproduction Leadership Team from the North Central beef production states. The research results have immediate application and will assist herds in achieving greater economic returns.”
Topics for the first day of the conference include current concepts in estrus synchronization, progestin-based estrus synchronization programs, using estrus synchronization and artificial insemination (AI) to enhance herd productivity and using AI to enhance product quality.
The second day’s highlights include management considerations that impact reproduction, considerations related to the male and current topics in reproductive management.
Early registration to the conference ends Aug. 16. For more information, contact Daryl Strohbehn at (515) 294-3020 or stroh@iastate.edu, or visit the conference Web site at http://muconf.missouri.edu/arsbc/agenda.html/.
