Workshops to Help Iowa Manufacturers Improve Efficient Use of Energy

CIRAS Workshop

8/17/2006

AMES, Iowa – A series of workshops designed to help Iowa manufacturers make more efficient use of their energy resources will be offered in September and October by Iowa State University Extension’s Center for Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS).

A session on Achieving Energy Efficiency with Electric Motors and Drives will be offered in three locations in mid-September. Participants will learn how to manage motor systems and variable speed drive applications to maximize energy savings. This training will provide effective information and hands-on demonstrations to help companies that want to lower operating and maintenance costs and increase productivity.

This one-day workshop will be offered Sept. 12 in Sioux City at Western Iowa Tech Community College, Sept. 13 in Des Moines at the Polk County Extension Office, and Sept. 14 in Cedar Rapids at Kirkwood Community College.

A two-day workshop on Achieving Energy Efficiency Improvements for Industrial Refrigeration Systems will be offered Oct. 11 and 12 in Des Moines.

This course will provide proven techniques that lead to energy efficiency improvements for industrial refrigeration systems. The first day of the workshop will be a higher level overview that is suitable for managers and other staff responsible for evaluating and implementing energy conservation measures. The second day will provide more depth to a number of specific energy conservation measures that have been field proven for their ability to deliver significant energy savings and efficiency improvement.

The workshops are co-sponsored by Alliant Energy, MidAmerican Energy, and the Iowa Energy Center. The programs were developed by Alex Kisslinger, CIRAS industrial specialist.
