Chinese University Delegation to Discuss Cooperation with Iowa State

AMES, Iowa -- Six senior administrators from Lanzhou Jiaotong University (LZJTU) will visit Iowa State University April 23 - 28. The delegation’s visit is part of an agreement between the two universities to develop cooperative degree programs, as well as provide collaborative faculty and research exchanges.

The delegation will meet with Iowa State faculty from the design and engineering colleges, as well as Iowa State administrators. The April visit is to discuss exchanges and research and developing cooperative programs in architecture as well as urban and regional planning.

The two universities currently have a cooperative program in civil engineering. Students in the program earn bachelor’s degrees from both universities. They study the first two years at LZJTU and complete their studies at Iowa State. The first group of Chinese students will come to the Iowa State campus for the fall 2006 semester.

The Chinese delegation is led by LZJTU Vice President Li Yinzhen. The cooperative program is coordinated at Iowa State by ISU Extension through the continuing education unit.

Bill Tysseling, director of Continuing Education, leads the Iowa State effort. “We have frequent virtual meetings. With this visit, the Chinese delegation will see the Iowa State facilities, the campus and the city of Ames. We’ll also be able to involve more faculty and staff from both universities in the discussions to work on an agreement,” Tysseling said.

The Chinese delegation will visit College of Design studios, engineering and design departments, the C6 virtual reality theater and continuing and distance education offices on campus. They will take an architectural tour and visit museums in Chicago prior to coming to Ames. Their tour concludes with an architecture tour in San Francisco.
