4/19/2006

Ames, Iowa -- Carrie Schwab-Pomerantz, senior vice president of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. will deliver the keynote address at the Iowa State University Foundation’s annual Women and Philanthropy seminar in Ames on May 16.

Schwab-Pomerantz is the chief strategist of consumer education and the president of the Charles Schwab Foundation. She will share her financial wisdom at the “It Pays to Talk…Your Finances, Your Family, Your Future” workshop at the Scheman Continuing Education Center on the ISU campus.

The Women and Philanthropy conference teaches women about personal financial planning and provides them with tools to become philanthropic leaders. Session topics include planning for business succession, teaching family values through philanthropy, getting your finances organized and habits of successful investing.

This year, an additional speaker has been added to the program. Pamela Jones Davidson, president of Davidson Gift Design, will discuss charitable gift planning at the seminar’s luncheon. Davidson is nationally recognized for her expertise in planning philanthropic gifts and will discuss planned giving design, implementation and training.

“Women find themselves in changing roles throughout their lives, especially as it relates to personal finances and charitable giving,” said Debra Engle, vice president of development for the ISU Foundation and member of the seminar’s planning committee. “No matter what stage of life we are in, we need to educate ourselves so we can make critical decisions about our financial well-being and become philanthropic leaders.”

The seminar is sponsored by the ISU Foundation and organized by its Women and Philanthropy committee. The volunteer committee is dedicated to expanding the philanthropic involvement of women by providing relevant education and increasing their opportunities for leadership roles in philanthropic organizations.

This is the seventh Women and Philanthropy seminar sponsored by the foundation. In the past, featured experts included Jean Chatzky, Terry Savage and Barbara Stanny.

The cost to attend the day-long seminar is $25. Bring a friend and pay only $20. The registration fee includes breakfast, lunch and dessert reception. The deadline for registration is May 5.
