Sac County 4-H'er Earns Communication Project Award

AMES, Iowa -- Kourtney Determan of Sac County received a state 4-H communication project award that includes a $100 savings bond from the Mary Jo and Glen Mente Endowment. Determan, 15, is the daughter of Steve and Barb Determan of Early.
During her eight years of 4-H involvement, Determan has completed several major projects including communication, citizenship, leadership, beef and clothing. She has served her local 4-H club as reporter, public relations chair and call committee. Determan has served on her County 4-H Council and has been selected to serve on the Northwest Iowa Area 4-H Council. She has participated in the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference/Animal Science Roundup in Ames, Iowa. Determan was on the planning team for Speak Out for Military Kids and has received Top Intermediate and Junior Record Book for her county. She has also received Top Intermediate and Junior Pride of Iowa and Top Intermediate Clothing Selection and Fashion Revue.
"I have learned many new and exciting things through 4-H," said Determan. "4-H has helped me develop my strengths in leadership, communication and citizenship. 4-H has made me a better person and has influenced my future plans to become a doctor. Throughout 4-H, I have learned that I love to help people and that helped me choose to become a doctor."
Determan is a sophomore at Schaller-Crestland High School.
