Iowa Takes Third in International 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa placed third in the National Invitational 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl held Nov. 5, 2005, at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.
A test of knowledge, the Dairy Quiz Bowl is an educational experience for participants, according to Mary Clancy, ag program coordinator with Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development.
The champion Iowa team (Fayette County) finished third out of 19 teams. Top place teams were, in rank order, New York, Maryland, Iowa and Minnesota.
Clancy described the Dairy Quiz Bowl as one of the nation’s most challenging contests for dairy industry youth to test their knowledge of dairy cattle and dairy products. It attracts youth from across the country -- Wisconsin to Alabama and Vermont to Washington.
The Expo is the largest all-breed, purebred livestock event in the world and attracts nearly 22,000 entries in nine livestock types and nearly 225,000 visitors.
4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.
