AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Muscatine County student. Jacob Meyers, West Liberty, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"Through high school I have tried to be a leader and a good example to the youth in the West Liberty area," Meyers, the son of Jay and Wendy Meyers, said. "I want to thank the Iowa 4-H Foundation and Hills Bank for this scholarship and leadership program that will help me continue to be a leader at Wartburg College."
Meyers has been involved in several activities including football and church youth group, and was the president of his senior class. He was named All-State in football and was a finalist in the National Council on Youth Leadership program. Meyers also took three mission trips with his church group to locations in the United States to work on projects.
A senior at West Liberty High School, Meyers plans to attend Wartburg College.
