AMES, Iowa -- A $2,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Muscatine County student. Nicole Olson, Muscatine, received a Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company.
The Hills Bank 4-H Scholarship is awarded to as many as 20 students each year. The recipients, who apply during their junior year in high school, attend nine hours of leadership training sponsored by Hills Bank and Trust Company during their senior year. Afterward, they receive $500 per semester for two years. The scholarship may be used at any of Iowa's accredited universities, colleges or community colleges.
"The Hills Bank leadership training program has enabled me to think outside of the box when it comes to being a leader," Olson, the daughter of Dan and Diane Olson, said. "I am more aware of how a group functions, and how to work as a team member to achieve goals."
Olson has been involved in several activities including student council, National Honor Society, Science Club, Model United Nations, swimming and tennis. She was the captain of the swimming and tennis teams and a chairperson for blood drives. Olson has been named a State of Iowa Scholar and was a member of an Academic All American team in swimming.
A senior at Muscatine High School, Olson plans to attend Drake University and major in pharmacy.
