Iowa County 4-H Member Receives Goering Communication 4-H Scholarship


AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to an Iowa County 4-H member. Rachel Dermody, Parnell, received the Goering Communication 4-H Scholarship sponsored by contributions to the Goering Communication Scholarship Fund and Don and Doris Goering.

Dermody, a nine-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Patrick and Sheryl Dermody. She has served as president, vice president and secretary of her 4-H club. Dermody has participated most actively in the communications, leadership, visual arts, home improvement and swine project areas. Dermody has served on her county and state 4-H councils and the county 4-H youth committee and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. She also has attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus conference and a 4-H exchange program in Colorado. Dermody received county leadership awards, a county citizenship award and the "I Dare You" award.

"4-H helped me become the person I am today," Dermody said. "It has provided me with endless opportunities that I never received in school."

Dermody is a recent graduate of Williamsburg High School. She plans to attend Iowa State University to study graphic design.
