AMES, Iowa -- A one-year tuition scholarship has been awarded to a former Cass County 4-H member. Nathan Hansen, Ames, received the Mahr Family 4-H Scholarship sponsored by the family of Marvin, Sr., and Frederica Mahr. The scholarship value is equal to the amount of resident undergraduate tuition.
Hansen is the son of Dean and Kay Hansen and was a nine-year 4-H member. He served as president and vice president of his 4-H club. Hansen participated most actively in the horse, beef, woodworking and welding project areas. He served on his county 4-H council and county youth committee, and received several county 4-H awards.
"From the first years in discovering 4-H until my last year as a senior, 4-H has been a very important influence on my life and helped to strengthen my leadership, communication and life skills," Hansen said. "It is by setting personal goals, working toward those goals and participating in the local club, county, district, and state activities and projects that you learn to work with people, acquire new skills and become the best you can be."
Hansen is a graduate of Central College where he was a four-year letter winner and Team C-Captain in football. He was also active in the Central College Bio/Chemistry Club, rugby, and a capella mixed and men's choirs. Hansen is listed in Who's Who Among College Students and received the Ron Schipper Character Leadership Award. Hansen will be a first-year veterinary medicine student at Iowa State University.
