Mills County 4-H Member Receives Obrecht 4-H Scholarship
AMES, Iowa -- A $500 scholarship has been awarded to a Mills County 4-H member. Abby Lauenroth, Glenwood, received the Lloyd W. and Myrtle Obrecht 4-H Scholarship sponsored by LaVerne and Pam Obrecht.
Lauenroth, a 10-year 4-H member, is the daughter of Mark and Vicki Lauenroth. She has served as president, vice president and secretary of her 4-H club. Lauenroth has participated most actively in the communication, woodworking, sheep, rabbit and beef project areas. She has served on her state, county and area 4-H councils and her county youth committee. She was also a National 4-H Congress delegate and attended the Citizenship-Washington Focus conference and the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. She has received a state fashion revue award, Mills County Outstanding 4-H'er award and the "I Dare You" award.
"4-H had a huge impact on me," Lauenroth said. "It turned me from a shy, young girl into the focused, outgoing person I am today. 4-H taught me to be a leader, not a follower, and to take charge in any activity that I am passionate about."
Lauenroth is a senior at Iowa State University where she is majoring in animal and dairy science. She has been a member of Collegiate 4-H for two years and is involved in the ISU Dairy Science club, Sigma Alpha professional sorority and Alpha Zeta honorary agriculture fraternity.
