5/13/2005
AMES, Iowa -- A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to a Humboldt County 4-H member. Clay Edge, Humboldt, received a Schmalenberger 4-H Scholarship sponsored by Carl Schmalenberger memorial funds.
Edge, a 10-year 4-H member, is the son of David and Melanie Edge. He has served as president, secretary and reporter of his 4-H club. Edge has participated most actively in the home improvement, citizenship, beef, forestry and plant science project areas. He served on his county 4-H council and attended the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference. Edge was a delegate to National 4-H Congress, received a state beef award and received the county Danforth "I Dare You" award.
"By being involved with 4-H I was able to get an understanding of animals," Edge said. "Through participation in this project area my interest grew in animals, which is why I am majoring in animal science and planning to continue in the field of veterinary medicine."
Edge is a senior at Humboldt High School. He plans to attend Iowa State University and enroll in the animal science program.
